I believe that if you decide to go into business for yourself it would be something that you would really like to do in an industry that you truly enjoy.
You can search thousands of different businesses out there, and they are all going to either sell you a product or service.
Now, honestly, the reason why people get into a home based business is NOT because of the product, but more for the business opportunity to earn more money. But I will tell you, that the product is also very important... here's why.
Ask yourself if you'd actually use the product, whether you are buying into the business or not. This is a good indicator of how it would pertain to others as well.
Make sure that there is a good history about the product's success. The longer it's been around, the better. You need knowledge of how others are happy with this product. All the people selling it to you will say how great it is because they want you to buy, but it's a different story to talk to people who've used it several times on their own. Ask them for a list of people who are using it and what their opinions are on it.
Is the product restricted against certain people using it? For example, selling make up will attract 99% of women, so men aren't big buyers. A good product will appeal to just about everybody.
Is it a good buy? I'm talking price. Are you getting your money's worth on the product? This is a biggie!
And finally, is it an industry that's enjoyable? How many people use it? Do your research good!
I can safely say that my product is something I would use even if I sold my business tomorrow. I'd still have the product and I know I'll have it for a lifetime, and one day pass it over to my kids to enjoy. It's also the biggest industry in the world: travel.
